My third month of what’s been an amazing year so far started off great. Our group report for Eng12 didn’t suck and I didn’t feel useless, and I survived another Karl Marx lecture during SocSci II. I crammed for my Comm3 exam in fifteen minutes and finished answering it in the same amount of time—it was pretty easy! My professor was forty-five minutes late though and we...

Couldn’t let Leap Day pass by without posting something on here—I’d have to wait four years before I could do it again!  Seriously, though, my life right now is hardly anything to write about. I’ve been burying myself in episodes CSI, How I Met Your Mother and 2 Broke Girls, as well as school (I just want this semester to end and have a fresh start all over again!). I...

This weekend I got a book called Dumpling Days, it’s for kids, but I don’t really care because it’s set in Taiwan and the story and drawings are just so cute and it takes me back to the summer and two Christmases I spent in the aforementioned country. It’s set in American summer, though, so it’s between June and July, and I’ve never been to Taiwan in those...

Title is relevant because we had an impromptu speech for Comm 3 today and it was part of my answer. Anyway. Fun time in English (not really, I kept wanting to fall asleep) and no SocSci II, yay.  I found this in Booksale, it reminded me of French Milk minus the travel part (Kate T. Williamson has an illustrated travel journal called A Year in Japan, though, it’s lovely but I don’t...

…and then some. I practically completed my set of LIV5 stripper names today! I only need Brian’s and The Ready Set’s and maybe A+D if I care, but there’s really nothing I can do about it now. I’m still so happy.  Ahhhhh theirs killed me! So cute. When I asked Rico for his, as usual, I was asked to repeat myself, then he said, “Well, my mom’s maiden...

We said goodbye to Forever the Sickest Kids and The Summer Set.  Now, before you scratch your head and go, “I know. You blogged about it last Monday,” I’m going to stop you right here and say that, no, we said goodbye to them today. I should explain. I was on my way home yesterday when Sarah suddenly texted, OH MY GOD NANDITO PA SILA. I replied, TSS?! I knew that Jess was...

John O’Callaghan is right. Love is a luxury. And it was an amazing feeling to carry around for six whole days.  I’m extremely glad to say that my LIV5 experience did not end with TriNoma. Today, I went to Intercon one last time to see the bands and make it a goodbye of sorts.  When I arrived, I stayed with Sarah, Marian, Keesha and Kyle (Halvo’s beloved @kyleiswhoa!) in the...

Shorter than usual, at least. Because I know the post-concert depression is going to be very long.  So yesterday, I went to my first and only date of LIV5—the TriNoma leg of the tour. I barely remember anything anymore, but I do remember a lot of the band members (Jonathan Cook especially!) mentioning “having no regrets.” So I’m keeping up my end of the bargain and saying...

Today became witness to what was, and here I quote Stephen’s Twitter, the “best breakfast ever part 2.” (“They have great breakfast here because we’re there!”) I couldn’t agree more.  Lia and I went into Jeepney at 8:30am and sat with Cla. Before I got to Intercon, I ran into my high school classmate Paolo at the MRT station and we had a nice minute or...

Combine a ragtag bunch of fangirls and band members and you get John Hughes gone horribly, horribly warped. (Get it? Get it?) So. Breakfast—it’s the most important meal of the day.  And, holy cheesegrater, did I get my fill.  I arrived at Intercon at 9am and when I texted Eunice to ask where she was, her reply was, Stephen Gomez is behind me holy shit. And, well, how was a girl...

I don’t even know how to begin writing about this day, but I guess I’ll start with this: I met Clarissa and Eunice at Intercon a few minutes before 10AM (too bad Anya wasn’t there; she was supposed to be!). We stayed in the Jeepney restaurant for a while and Eunice bought 300-peso yogurt so we could take seats.  It came in those normal yogurt cups you can get at the...

Yesterday, I was crying (complete with sobs, the first time in months or even years) alone in a room while my whole family partied downstairs. Cue the emo music. It was because my dad asked to borrow 500 from me, and I had to take it from the 5000 I worked so hard on completing for the past few weeks, which I was using to pay for my Pulp Royalty for The Maine. I thought I had no way to get it...

We celebrated my grandmother’s 75th birthday today, and I’m still waiting for my dad to finish getting the pictures, so for now I’ll blog about this.  In December 2009, when my whole family flew to Taiwan, I was on an epic search for a red leather jacket. Aside from a D3000 (attainable) and a military jacket (impossible), this was my biggest Christmas wish. I was looking for...

I know the correct lyric actually goes, “have a laugh,” but this was pretty relevant.  We went to the Up All Night launch today! It was really great being with people I absolutely adored and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Even if I was supposed to be looking at high-flying hot air balloons at Clark instead of high-pitched screaming Directioners! (Still can’t proclaim...

And, well, a couple of other things.  I had a lot of fun in Spanish today; we’re finally studying the actual past tense! I got a 1.5 on the 30-item quiz and we just had a lot of general fun. (And here I salute and say, “General Fun!” like Ted and Robin would.)  I went home, then had lunch with Julienne at KFC so we can finally talk about everything properly. Great time, as...

Let’s back up a bit to February 2011: Garrett Nickelsen was turning 21, wristbands were cool, The Maine were coming to Manila.  Now, what would the most logical course of action be?  Having these Zombie Slayer wristbands made and selling them, of course. These were part of the first batch of bracelets Rian and I released as Buttered Croissant Trading, and they were, simply, a birthday...

…with the sound of a dial tone. I woke up at eight in the morning today to call for gold stubs to the TriNoma leg of LIV5. I was really groggy and disoriented, but then I realized why I set the alarm in the first place. I was watching TV to keep myself occupied while waiting and I was texting Kaira too. Then at 9:45 or so I started dialing—and redialing—the concierge hotline.  ...

Had dinner out with my parents at TechnoHub tonight. I told them over pancakes that I miss having Mister Kabab’s special beef chelo kebab and my mom was suddenly like, “Let’s go out tonight!”  It must be noted that we hardly ever have nights out anymore, so I told them, “You can’t take this back. I’ll write up a contract if I have to!” They only...

Great day with the girls today! I brought Annie along for my Fridate with Alfie and Cam, but we didn’t have much time for photos. Alfie and I helped Camille pick out a Blair Waldorf-esque dress for her blockmate’s debut and I think we were successful! It was lacy, had a rounded collar, had a ribbon you could tie around the back, and it was P320. Absolutely perfect. I wish I had a...

Bah, couldn’t think of a good creative title so fuck it. I finally saw the film adaptation of One Day last Tuesday, yay. I’ve always loved how candid the poster is. Like I said, I wasn’t able to focus on the film industry much in 2011, and now I’m trying to change that. See what I mean? Candid. Perfect.  So I absolutely adored David Nicholls’ idea of writing a...

Nope, that’s not a verbal equation left hanging. Camille called me today and told me she was buying a back issue of Total Girl Plus!, and this made me go into overdrive reminiscing about being 14 and being a JBnoy (still am!) and being with all of these amazing people.  And why does Total Girl Plus matter so much, you ask? My friends and I are in it. (My dad, ever the stage parent,...

I toyed around with my cousin’s D90 today. Everyone’s out and I’ve got the whole place to myself, if only for a while, before I go back home. (I’m at the condo in Manila, by the way.) Camille dropped by during her hour-and-a-half break and I helped her with her SocSci scrapbook (she stole the Wonderless logo for it, but I’m flattered, haha)! We also talked a lot and...

Here is the review on Why We Broke Up, a team effort between Daniel Handler (better known as Lemony Snicket) and Maira Kalman, as promised! Minerva “Min but not Minnie” Green likes movies. No, she loves them. Her free time is spent seeing classics at The Carnelian, and she hopes to someday make them, too. Life is just one big film for Min, and she’s got one or two of them playing in her head...

My life is defined by the things I obsess over. It relies on obsessions so much, in fact, that whenever I find myself having nothing to moon over, it feels a little weird. The lifespan of my fixations differ so I can’t really pin an exact average. Anyway, here are some things that I can’t get enough of this week! Be warned, today is one of those days when I just can’t hide my...

I finished Why We Broke Up a couple of days ago, and I loved it! I just wish the plot, rather, The Reveal, had been a bit more extraordinary, as Min would say. That’s my only problem, though. It’s still such a great read.  Which is probably why I now own two copies of it.  Long story. I’m not proud of it.  See that pretty, pretty book right there? It’s the hardbound...

Steph: Do you know what Pete [Wentz]'s race is?
Me: Is it Japenis?
Steph: I thought he was from the Philipeens.
Me: So he's Filipeeno...maybe he's a little bit Mexdickan too.
Steph: He's probably Cockasian.
Me: He might be Canadian. I know he says he's from Chicago, but maybe he's actually from Weeniepeg. What a prick!

I found out last night that the California Dreams tour will be released on DVD with footage from the November 23rd tour date! I was pretty surprised to find that it actually began in early 2011 and is literally a huge tour. I can’t wait to get the DVD; I hope it comes with a live album.  Anyway, not much to say today, except that I have two papers (and a quiz!) due Thursday in SocSci II...

So I ended up going to the Katy Perry concert after all. It took a lot to make it happen, and I’m glad it unfolded this way. However, my sister and I were only able to get Bronze tickets—and if we could get anything better than that, I think I’d only be dreaming—so I had no chance to take any photos at all. Google it is! The photos I found are amazing, anyway, and I...

“Do you know The Academy Is…?”  I looked up from whatever it was that I was doing on my desk to meet your then-signature lazy half-smile. “I know of them,” I replied, smiling right back.  You gazed at me sideways, then nodded. “Okay, good to know.”  I don’t think I need to tell you this, but you asked me again around two or three more times. Sometimes the question would be different. “Do you...

Let’s get this out of the way—fun Eng 12 discussion, grueling exams in both SocSci II and Comm 3. Fingers crossed I did okay! Anyway. I believe the point of this post is why I lost money again today, and that reason is this: Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler.  Why We Broke Up is exactly what it says on the tin…err, cover. The novel (which includes gorgeous full-page,...

…but the classic childhood game staple has made it online since the beginning of blogging and Ate Mary tagged me to answer this little questionnaire! Hooray. 1. If you had one day to live, what would you do?  If I had one final day to live, presumably tomorrow, I’d probably still go to class and talk to all of my friends, a final conversation of sorts. Then I’d fly to Taipei,...

Hooray for new page-turning purchases! Last Thursday while waiting for Julienne to show up at TriNoma, I went around and tried to pass the time. At Nash I seriously considered buying another current issue of M magazine (I know, I know) because One Direction were featured and Louis looked tres adorable on the cover. Thank God I went and looked in the classics section and found the most amazing set...

Simple Plan in Manila, Part III Simple Plan had two backdrops and I think they dropped this one with the huge heart during Jet Lag.  Borrowed this from Julienne, haha. Lovely, perfect setlist. Simple Plan in Manila, Part II Kelsey got some dinner at Taco Bell while we waited for Ate Inah and Ate Dan. I was really quite glad that the former decided to come with us (she was initially convinced because she thought she could get tickets for P250 as well, but those ran out, so I told her we three would split a P530 one and all in all we’d pay P333 or so each, but she ended up just...

Simple Plan in Manila, Part I Of course I used this title. Carry on…  The day is February 12th, 2012 (wow, this is a lame intro).   I know, I know. Using the “I am Jack’s” Fight Club quote because I’m about to write something in relation to Ed Norton—how original, right?  Oh, well.
